Primary students held a bake sale and earned 3642 NOK, the Year 3 Aztec Market generated a 3000 NOK donation, the Lower Secondary Student Council sponsored a candy sale, “Hearts for Haiti” and is still collecting funds, and the Piano Charity Concert donation was a total of 1590 NOK. The Lower Primary is holding their Haiti appeal on 12 March. Thank you students for your concern and efforts!
2. OIS Board Open Parent Meeting
The OIS Board will hold its second open parent meeting this year on Tuesday, 9 March from 18.00-20.00 in the OIS lobby. This meeting is an opportunity for parents to receive an update on the 2009 financial results, 2010 budget, the gym project, and other board goals as well as inquire about the work of the board and improvement plans for the school.
3. PeaceJam Conference at Bradford University
Head of School, Tom Baker, and IB CAS Coordinator, Felica Røkaas, will be leading a group of Pre-IB students from OIS (Pamela Cadenhead, Cristyn Lloyd, Ines Gerand-Ursin and Dagny-Elise Anastassion) to attend the PeaceJam UK Conference at Bradford University, in Bradford, U.K., Friday through Sunday, March 5 to 7.
PeaceJam Youth Conferences are open to youth ages 14-19 that are actively involved in the PeaceJam program and take place annually in many of their Affiliate Regions throughout the world. The Jam is an opportunity to meet and work directly with a Nobel Peace Laureate as well as other youth who are interested in understanding and solving the most difficult problems facing our world. Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and President of East Timor, Jose Ramos-Horta, is the guest laureate for this year’s Bradford Jam.
The mission of the PeaceJam Foundation is to create young leaders committed to positive change in themselves, their communities and the world through the inspiration of Nobel Peace Laureates who pass on the spirit, skills, and wisdom they embody. More information about this organization can be found on their website at: http://www.peacejam.org/home.aspx#top
4. March First Friday with Tom
The First Friday with Tom scheduled for Friday, 5 March, from 9:15 to 10:15 in the OIS Lobby has been moved to Friday, 12 March. This meeting is an opportunity for the Director to meet with parents to better understand their views about the school. We will discuss ideas, issues, and/or concerns that parents wish to discuss that they feel may be of interest to other OIS parents.
