Building at OIS
The previous facilities were far from adequate to support the changing learning environment and student body. While some renovations and a new wing were added in the 1990’s, most areas had not been updated for years. Consequently, parts of the 3600 m2 main building, built in the 1960’s, were in need of renewal. In addition, the school was required to remove the 1150 m2 of temporary accommodations that were housing the lower primary and IB program. The need for space and revitalization was critical.
The school administration and board, guided by the prestigious firm Jarmund/Vigsnæs AS, developed an innovative and architecturally pleasing design that maximized the existing space and saw the total renovation of the main school building.
Phase one and phase two have now been completed. The staff and children have now moved into the new primary building and are enjoying their new environment. There is a wonderful feeling of light and space in the new building.
We have started the Projecting on Phase Three which will see the renovation and extension of the existing gym into an auditorium, drama and music rooms and larger gym facilities. It is anticipated that this next phase of the building project is likely to commence towards the end of 2009/early 2010.
