Programme of Studies
The student and staff population at OIS represent many different nationalities and cultures. Great care is taken therefore, to give an objective view of the world. The OIS programme of studies has been developed to meet this challenge.

The Kindergarten at OIS provides a stimulating environment where very young children can develop their social skills and be actively involved in a range of pre-school activities. Children may be accepted from 3 years of age.

Reception and Years 1-6 follow the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), which encompasses history, geography, science, art, information and communication technology (ICT), Music, Society and PSHE (Personal, Social & Health Education). Literature, mathematics, Norwegian, drama and physical education are taught as stand alone subjects outside of the IPC curriculum.

The  IPC programme provides our international student body with an objective international curriculum. IPC takes into account the most up-to-date research into how children learn and encourages them to become life-long learners. The programme is taught in units, all of which contain an international element designed to raise children’s awareness of the world around them and a personal element, which encourages independent learning.

Student Placement
Students are normally placed in their age group. There could, however, be exceptions to this. Previous school experience will also be taken into account.

Differentiation
Differentiation is a fundamental part of the Primary Curriculum. Differentiated teaching and learning outcomes are used to help children who require extra support or a greater challenge.

Learning Support
There is additional learning support available throughout the Primary School from specialists in this area.

EAL (English as an Additional Language)
Non-English speaking students will be referred to the EAL Department for assessment. If necessary, students will be given additional lessons by specialist teachers.
