Safety at OIS
Oslo International School shall be a safe and welcoming environment for learning and play as well as an arena for children to gradually acquire skills for evaluating and handling safety risks. The school shall seek to strike a balance between the different risk sensitivities of it's constituencies while taking into account the safety and security situation of the local environment. The school shall comply fully, at all times, with the Norwegian educational regulations and international accreditations with regard safety equipment, procedures, staff training and facility. OIS has a comprehensive and well-developed safety system with clearly defined roles and responsibilities, policies, procedures and protocols as well as equipments and technical installations in order to keep the children as safe as possible.
Both the Primary and Secondary divisions have the equivalent of one full-time counsellor providing support for students, parents, and teachers. The focus of the programme is the development of the whole child: socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually. The counsellors provide guidance and/or information on issues such as self esteem, peer pressure, transitional difficulties, social skills, interpersonal relationships, organizational skills and other issues that students may face. Types of services include; individual (parent or child), family and group counselling. Referrals are made by parents, teachers or the students.
A nurse is available for students during school hours. The nurse is available to provide help and advice on all health related issues. A first aid facility is available during school hours. If a student is injured or sufficiently unwell as to be unable to return to normal classes within a reasonable period of time, then parents will be contacted and arrangements made for the student to go home.
