WHAT IS YOUR BACKGROUND?
I have a 5-Year BEd in Secondary Education from the University of British Columbia and completed three years of post-graduate studies (at MA and PhD Levels) in South African & German History at Queen’s University in Canada and the University of Bielefeld in Germany. My career at OIS started in 1989 as a Lower Secondary teacher and, since then, I have taught various subjects in all parts of the Secondary. I have been Head of Upper Secondary since 2004 and Head of all of Secondary since 2010.
NAME THREE THINGS YOU INTEND TO ACHIEVE AT OIS
To see the completion of the total overhaul of the Secondary curriculum.
To lead and participate in the shift in Secondary pedagogy from transmission of information (the traditional approach) to a more skills based “process-oriented instruction”, which involves less teacher direction and much more emphasis on student self-regulation, joint problem-solving, conceptual understanding, reflection and skills transfer to wider contexts.
To expand the number of students in the Upper Secondary and broaden the subject choices in our IB Programme.
SHARE ONE MEMORABLE MOMENT FROM OIS
The most gratifying moment occurs annually and is our IB2 Graduation. Seeing all those proud students who have competed a demanding education and knowing that they are truly well-prepared for the exiting and challenging future ahead.
