Fitness & Sport

Active, healthy and engaged

Regular physical activity plays an important role in students' health, wellbeing and overall development. Through a broad P.E. programme and a wide range of sporting opportunities, students build confidence, challenge themselves and develop lifelong habits for healthy, active living.

A Comprehensive P.E. Programme

Our Physical Education curriculum offers a wide variety of individual and team activities throughout every stage of school, encouraging every student to participate, develop new skills and discover activities they enjoy.

Using our sports halls, multi-purpose gym, nearby sports facilities and municipal swimming pool, students develop movement skills, coordination and physical confidence in a supportive and inclusive environment. Swimming lessons form part of the curriculum from Primary through to Year 8.

Students experience a broad range of activities, including basketball, badminton, volleyball, handball, football, floorball, athletics, orienteering and fitness. Alongside physical development, they learn the value of teamwork, perseverance, leadership and good sportsmanship—qualities that extend far beyond the sports hall and playing field.

"To me, physical activity is the foundation of a healthy mind and body. It's so rewarding to witness our students' personal growth through their enthusiasm and sporting engagement.

- Karen Borgen, P.E. Teacher

Competitive Sport

Students have many opportunities to represent OIS in local and international competitions throughout the school year.

From Year 6 to IB2, Junior and Senior teams compete in the Norwegian International Schools League (NISL) across sports including football, basketball, volleyball and cross-country running. Students also participate in the Nordic Sports League, competing against international schools from Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland.

Whether competing for the school or supporting their teammates, students develop resilience, commitment and teamwork while building friendships, school spirit and memories that last well beyond their time at OIS.
