Academic Competitions
Encouraging intellectual growth and excellence
Students who enjoy stretching themselves academically have many opportunities to represent OIS in competitions at local, national and international level. Whether competing individually or as part of a team, they challenge themselves, pursue their interests and celebrate success across a wide range of subjects.
Mathematics Competitions
OIS has a proud tradition of excellence in mathematics, with students consistently achieving outstanding results in national and international competitions.
This year, one of our students was crowned national champion in the prestigious Abel Competition, one of Norway's leading mathematics competitions for secondary students.
OIS students also regularly achieve top national rankings in the Kangaroo Mathematics Competition and participate in international events such as the ISMTF Competition and ECIS Maths Quest, where they collaborate, solve complex mathematical challenges and represent OIS with distinction.
For many students, academic competitions spark a deeper interest in learning and encourage them to challenge themselves beyond the classroom.

Science Competitions
Students with a passion for science are encouraged to extend their learning through the Biology, Chemistry and Physics Olympiads, where they compete alongside some of Norway's most talented young scientists.
Despite these competitions being based on the Norwegian curriculum rather than the IB Diploma Programme, OIS students consistently perform at an exceptionally high level. Over the years, our students have progressed through multiple rounds of the Olympiads, with national winners and runner-up finishes highlighting the strength of our science programme.
Language Competitions
Language learning at OIS extends beyond the classroom through competitions and cultural events that encourage students to communicate confidently, think creatively and deepen their intercultural understanding.
Students regularly participate in national and international language competitions, including the iLcompetition and the Spanish Festival in Oslo. Over the years, OIS students have achieved outstanding results, with teams consistently reaching the final rounds of the former and winning numerous awards at the Spanish Festival, including first-place.
Model United Nations (MUN)
Model United Nations (MUN) gives Upper Secondary students the opportunity to explore global issues through debate, diplomacy and international cooperation.
Meeting weekly, the student-led club challenges participants to represent different countries, research current affairs, negotiate solutions and debate resolutions on issues affecting the world today. Through these experiences, students develop leadership, public speaking, critical thinking and teamwork skills in a supportive and engaging environment.
OIS students regularly represent the school at MUN conferences in Norway and abroad, where they have earned numerous awards for outstanding debating, diplomacy and public speaking.
