Bringing our community together through celebration
Many of our cultural celebrations are supported by parents, who generously share their traditions, customs and experiences with the school community. Whether through storytelling, music, crafts, food or cultural activities, these celebrations help students develop a deeper appreciation of the diversity that makes OIS such a special place to learn.
United Nations Day
Throughout the year, our community comes together to celebrate cultural traditions, student achievements and important milestones. From United Nations Day and Norway's National Day to Santa Lucia, graduation ceremonies and proms, these shared experiences strengthen friendships, celebrate diversity and create lasting memories for students and families alike.
Our community loves United Nations Day.
It's a wonderful forum to promote our customs and traditions from around the world, and truly appreciate the diversity amongst us.

Norway's National Day
As an international school in Norway, celebrating Constitution Day on 17 May is an important tradition. Students proudly wear bunads and national dress as they take part in a community parade, led by a local marching band around the neighbouring sports field. Families join us for this joyful celebration of Norwegian culture, music and tradition while also recognising the many nationalities that make up our school community.
Santa Lucia
Each December, our youngest students mark the Scandinavian tradition of Santa Lucia with a candlelit procession through the school, dressed in white and singing traditional songs. Parents are invited to share this much-loved event, which brings warmth, reflection and a wonderful sense of community as the festive season begins.

Graduation
Graduation marks important milestones throughout a student's journey at OIS. From Pre-School and Year 6 celebrations to the Year 10 graduation and the IB Diploma Programme graduation ceremony, each event recognises students' achievements, personal growth and readiness for the next stage of their education.
Alongside these milestone celebrations, Upper Secondary students enjoy a prom that brings classmates together to celebrate the end of the school year and the friendships they have built along the way.
