Wellbeing
Every student deserves to feel safe, supported and valued
Wellbeing is central to life at Oslo International School. We believe students learn best when they feel a sense of belonging, build positive relationships and know there are trusted adults who are there to support them.
Our approach is both proactive and responsive. Wellbeing is supported through strong relationships, pastoral care and close collaboration between students, families and staff, creating an environment where every student feels safe, respected and ready to learn.

Social-emotional counsellors
OIS has two full-time School Counsellors—one supporting Primary and one supporting Secondary. They provide individual support, work with families and staff, and promote social and emotional wellbeing across the school.
Support includes:
- Individual and small group counselling
- Classroom sessions that promote social and emotional learning
- Parent and teacher consultation
- Parent workshops
- Support during key school transitions
- Referrals to specialist services where appropriate
Our counsellors also support students as they move between divisions, contribute to safeguarding, and work alongside staff to promote a positive and caring school environment.
Whether a student needs ongoing support or simply someone to talk to, our counsellors are here to help.
Supporting families
The Counsellors also work in partnership with parents and carers, offering guidance on matters such as:
- Emotional or behavioural concerns
- Family changes and transitions
- Child and adolescent development
Students can speak to a counsellor directly or be referred by a parent or teacher.
Creating a safe, healthy and welcoming environment
Looking after students' physical health and safety is an important part of our wider commitment to wellbeing.
Our two qualified School Nurses provide advice, care and support for students' health needs, with one available throughout the school day. If a student becomes unwell or is unable to return to class, parents will be contacted to collect their child. In partnership with the local municipality, students are offered vaccinations through the Norwegian Childhood Immunisation Programme, together with routine hearing and vision screening at the appropriate year levels.
Oslo International School complies fully with Norwegian educational regulations and recognised international standards for health, safety and safeguarding. Our Health, Safety and Welfare Committee oversees policies, procedures, staff training and emergency planning to help ensure students can learn, play and participate with confidence.
